The Bells of Liberty

The bells of liberty ring across the land
Where freedom rings throughout with clarity of sound
From York to Angeles freed men stand
The bells of liberty ring across the land

From the eastern shores came the Puritan lot
And from the south the Spanish for the Rico Oro they came
There were no Bells Of Liberty in their game

The native peoples of this fertile geographic display
Did raise and nurture their children with whom they play
Freedom was lost from the Alleghenies to the Rockies-lined
coast
For white man's greed did rage against this land's original host
There were no Bells Of Liberty in the land

The Native American fought with trepidity of spirit, alas did fall
But now their oppressors have acquiesced to all
Travesties surmounted on black, brown and red, and yellow of
skin
All mankind now searches for equality within
And once and for all we make our stand
So
The Bells Of Liberty ring across the land
One of Three Ways

Often I have gone to the Lord with plenty of requests
And just as often come away without a hint of his
bequest
The answers I sought after were soulishly mine
My desires were not His I could tell, for my prayers
were benign
I would ask with selfish intent and hope He would
comply
But God is sovereign and to these prayers I had no
reply
So I went to the Word, found a sense of respite
I had not considered His plan for my life
So I once more went to the Lord and spoke with a
new voice
I humbled myself and in His plan did rejoice
I asked not for myself or for the desirs without
I soon found an end to my spiritual draught
It only took Scripture to resolve that which I alone
did create
I now know when God hears our prayers
He always answers in one of three ways
YES--NO--OR--WAIT
Simplicity

The simplicity of the love God has given
Abounds in all without cost or condemnation
He gave his Son for the justification of our sin
And with His resurrection to life salvation begins
We are sanctified, set apart, holy and clean
If asked He will lift us up on eagles' wings
If all of this is true and simplicity exists in these words
Why are so many without guidance, lost sheep, bound in herds
Again, simplicity is the answer to all disqualified from eternal life
They open not ears or eyes to see Christ's light
FOR LOVE

It was for love he was born into this world
It was for love he lived as one of the poor
He worked from his youth until it was time to begin
Then a cousin pronounced him the Messiah, the savior of men
After some time in the desert and facing the prince of this world
He chose his companions and made his request
He asked that they follow his teachings and do their best
Without thought of self or possessions, he owned not a thing
He thought only of others and love he could bring
The poor he did love and healed with a touch
The rich he pitied for having too much
He talked with the teachers and lawyers as well
He warned them of religious traditions and impending hell
They cared not for his teachings or miracles performed
They were taken by vanities and devotion to Rome
But for love of the Chosen he continued to teach
Until a friend, then a betrayer, one of his followers deceived
For a bag full of money, a few pieces of coin
The leaders of the nation conceived of a plan
They followed him to the Garden and after he prayed
Came a kiss from a friend by whom the Son of Man was betrayed
Into the center of villains the Messiah was thrust
His followers did abandon him, leaving only his Father to trust
While the prince of this world falsely claimed victory over light
They tried him and scoffed him and beat him with whips
They tore out his beard and bloodied his lips
He stood before men and spoke not a word
His work was nearing the end as a man.
From the beginning he had known the Father's plan
It was for love he was born into this world
And for love he would die
Those who knew the truth heard his voice
And with him will reside
He was asked 'what is truth' and answered it thus,
"My kingdom is not of this world.
If it were, my followers would fight at all costs."
Then the Chosen of God turned away from his face
They called him a blasphemer and hung him on a cross
Some did chide him and others just laughed
But his mother and John watched as he breathed his last
He cried, "It is finished."
Then he was removed from the tree and put in a tomb
But three days later it was an empty room
He rose from the dead and walked once more
Over five hundred saw him in the towns and by the Galilean shore
Then he ascended to the right hand of the Father, taking his rightful seat.
But the Holy Spirit, which descended on him like a Dove
Was now sent by Him from the Father to his followers on Pentecost Day
Telling his Remnant to love one another as they follow The Way
His Holy Spirit continues to this day to inspire
So, when asked why I think he had to suffer and die
I have only one answer
For you and I

AND FOR LOVE
BETTER THE LOVE

FROM GOD ABOVE

WITH HEART SO BOLD

AND NEVER COLD
Yea Though I Walk

As across the darkened pathway I dreamily walk, I spy a
figure as dark and ominous as the darkness itself. I stop. I
pause. The mystical figure ceases to move! As if by
satanic intuition he knows my every move.

I walk again,l in almost catlike movement. I once more
see the dark deceiving figure casting himself into my
life, inexorably bound to me as I try to evade closer
contact. But as a bug is drawn to the flame, the figure
comes closer and closer as I walk even more hastily
through the darkness.

The darkness surrounds me. I'm not lost and yet I feel
abandoned as I pierce the darkness to view small
glimmers of the ever pursuing figure moving, ever
moving to me, unabated by the dark, casting himself
closer and closer until I am gripped with fear.

I run, I run as fast as my faithless legs can carry me to
the closest lamppost! I turn, head down expecting the
specter of Death himself to touch my deepest soul.

As I muster the courage and strength to look forward I
can see first his feet touching mine, and then as I raise
my head to full stature, I realize under the light that my
great fear has been me! For in the darkness I fled from
only myself, my shadow.

The lamp that drew me to safety like Christ has revealed
my only true enemy; where there is light the dark cannot
exist.
In the Twinkling of an Eye

Life passes you by, not in a glimpse or a rambling montage
But with the diligent and minute intricacies of every moment
Which inexorably meant more than you thought, but sometimes
Did not mean so much
From the time of your youth and that first rebellious act until
That first kiss with a girl you thought you loved, but hardly knew
But then you see as if yesterday has returned the tragedy of the
Loss of the first loved one
A grandfather or an aunt or maybe a best friend's dad
All you remember is how terribly sad the thoughts
Which permeate the moments as they are revealed.
And then comes adolescence and the love of your life and you
Once again remember just what is important in life
The love of another with whom you think you could never do without
And then the jealousy and the strife that tore you apart
As adulthood gathers and you move from relation to relation
You once remember that temporal elation, that first
And enduring love of so long ago.
In selfish desire you try with all of your heart to rekindle that love
Which was lost when first you did love
Only to find that it is as far from the east as the west.
Then in a glimpse of later years you succumb to the thoughts that you
At best must compromise the euphoria of that first love and make finally
A choice to accept that which best fills the lonely void.
Sure, you can find trophies to placate the empty abode with beauty
And vivacious adornments for a moment in time, but
Only to find that even with beauty a void still exists.
And then as you grow older you look beyond the beauty of the lustful
delights and seek that which is within, not that which is without
If luck and God's grace abounds in your life you soon come
Upon the one and the only mate which will give you the fullness
Of life, and then and only then may you find God's true delight
For it is not in the outward beauty or the lustful fulfillment
That will last through the years, but a spirit which is only found
When, while shedding tears that your one true love
Stands by your side and with you always will abide.
For in the twinkling of an eye God in His mercy has wisely
Brought you your one true mate.
Beyond the Realm

Beyond the realm of daily life in this world
God's love
Sets upon us as the sun breaking on a mountain meadow
Within this world without God man is nothing but shadow
Darkness besets his every thought
But as the sun brings light to the meadow and life abounds
So it is in man with his revelation of God
The light breaks into the darkness of his soul
Then within him God will go
Man was made to commune with the Creator
And thus the creator he is destined to know
Agape love is the beaming incandescence
Which is set aglow once man's heart is freed to sow
Such love can only come as God has shown
Through His only Begotten Son
Then when man has accepted such love
Such a man is guided from above
And given a woman to share such joy
Just such a love between woman and man
Can never exist without a heavenly plan
As surely as the Maker gave Adam his Eve
God has given you to me
R E A S O N S

I cast a thousand reasons to the wind and suppose
that all will justify the ends
Upon my reasons I lose all doubts as to wheres or
whys or whens
But upon these reasons I find no peace or grace that
by human logic abounds
Within my lonely vestige of selfish will-less soul I
only find more guilt that propounds
Soaring in the gloomy vicissitudes of a witless brain
I try once more for peace to gain
But no peace of mind in reason and human logic so
purported to contain
So in desperate straits I turn as others before me
have done
To God the Father and Jesus Christ His only
Begotten Son
Tombstones, Hospitals and Jails

Always upon the horizon for those on their way to hell

Me, myself and I have seen all three
Tombstones and hospitals for family and friends
and incarceration of I, myself, ME

But no matter how often God made known He is there
I continued to carry out evil desires without care

Until one day in March, it was '90 or '91
My selfish desires had reduced me to dung

But God in his mercy and Grace with a loving decree
Game me one more chance to be set free

Finally giving up self and kneeling to pray
Jesus came and carried my sins away

So, no longer do I consider the tombstones, hospitals and
jails
For Christ beyond the cross had made me well

No longer do I fear
Tombstones, Hospitals and Jails
Old Jonah

Old Jonah got a command, then he ran
And a boat is no place to hide
Old Jonah found himself in a fish
He never made it to Tarshish
He prayed and God put him on land
From God he got another command
Old Jonah went to Nineveh and said
In forty days you'll all be dead
With sackcloth and ashes they did repent
Because of God's mercy He did relent
Old Jonah became angry and full of ire
Old Jonah ask of God if he could expire
By grace and a plant God made Old Jonah happy again
Then a worm came along and once more he did sin
At sunrise the wind from the east did blow
Old Jonah had no place to go
Old Jonah pleaded with God to take away his life
His pride was hurt, it cut like a knife
God told Old Jonah his compassion was unwisely spent
For he cared not for the thousands who prayed to repent
So if God gives you a mission just go His way
Don't be like Old Jonah and with fishes play
Do as God bids without anger or ire
And in the Lord let your heart be on fire
SIDES

You can run but you just can't hide
Does it prosper a man when he's died
In this world of do your own thing
If he has never chosen a side

To find your true calling is an innate desire
For bettering this world we all aspire
It matters not if you are remembered at all
What matters above all is the soul reaching higher

So consider the lilies of the field
They toil not but beauty they yield
The secret isn't in what they have done
The fact of their elegance is in the appeal

They were created for the eye so all would know
The Creator has more than this to bestow
It's yours for the asking and seeking to find
So pick the side of the Creator, He'll never say no
